Bike to School Organizing
Celebrate bicycling and promote healthy active lifestyles by biking to school on National Bike to School Day and beyond!
Volunteers across the region are organizing bike buses and activities that encourage their school communities to hop on a bike. We have resources and community to help you get started at your school!
How to Start a Bike Bus
Build Your Team
Recruit parent volunteers, admin & teachers to join on the ride and to help spread the word
Figure out how you’ll communicate with your volunteer team (WhatsApp, Slack, Email, etc)
Plan a Route
Find slow streets with controlled intersections
Identify suggested “stops” and time estimates
Promote your Ride
Make a flyer with a route map, timing and schedule
Ask your school to share in any newsletters & blast the parent communication channels
Encourage participants to watch this Rider Rules video
Ride and have fun!
Don’t forget to take/share pictures and videos!
Tag @chicagofamilybiking so we can share and inspire others!
